Chanting certain vowels, mantras, chants and invocations can have beneficial and uplifting effects on body, mind and spirit.

We are affected by the sights and sounds around us. Sounds, smells, sensations, tastes and images enter into our minds through the senses and condition our mental state. These sense inputs are all various manifestations of vibrations. In fact, all matter, energy, and thought are types of gross and subtle vibrations. All of these vibrations exist in the sea of pure consciousness and appear and disappear like waves on the surface of this sea. The mind is the molder of our every experience. Every sense impulse is analyzed, evaluated and then recorded in the mind as pleasant (supporting our needs), unpleasant (endangering to our needs) or neutral. If our conditioning and beliefs have learned to interpret a particular perception or event as positive or as satisfying, then the mind creates a pleasant inner environment. When, however, the events of life are interpreted by the programmed mind as threatening, fearful or unpleasant, it then creates a state of anxiety and tension. It is surprising how many people suffer from anemia and how many more who although they are not medically labeled as anemic, do not have enough red blood cells to be totally healthy and full of vitality. Symptoms of a low red blood cell supply are apathy, chronic tiredness, shortness of breath, irritability, headaches, dizziness and the poor functioning of the cells and various organs of the body, due to the lack of sufficient oxygen. Good circulation depends on three basic factors: a good heart, clean arteries and veins, and well functioning valves in the veins. Here we will concentrate basically on the aspect of the quality of the arteries, veins and valves. Their condition depends basically on how clean they are and how flexible and «alive» they are. If they are lined with various waste products such as salts and fatty acids, then the volume of blood which can pass is diminished and the ability of the vessels to expand and contract is severely limited. It is best if you can learn the exercises which are recommended for your specific self-therapy from an experienced yoga instructor. He or she will be able to guide you in the rate, rhythm and duration of each movement. Any mistaken or ineffective movements or positions will be corrected and you will get much more benefit from your exercises. This would require only one to eight visits (depending on your problem and experience in exercising) so that you can learn these exercises well. Then you can continue at home on your own, unless you prefer a class setting or would like to go beyond the self-therapy stage to the self-development and then the self-knowledge stages of your evolution. In that case it would be wise to find a recommended and responsible yoga center near you and proceed beyond self-therapy into self-transformation.
